The Flower Essence Society is pleased to have Granlibakken Conference Center as the host for our Practitioner Training Programs since 1998, including three international programs in Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese, and several English-language programs. Due to the very enthusiastic praise and positive experience of our friends who attended these programs, we are returning again to Granlibakken to host this year's Practitioner Training Programs in Japanese and in English.

The name Granlibakken is Norwegian for "a hill sheltered by trees," which is an accurate description of this venue. Granlibakken is set back about a mile from the Lake and the south end of Tahoe City, a small town of 6,000 permanent residents. It is on 74 acres (30 hectares) of tree-covered land. Its facilities include professional meeting rooms, a variety of lodging accommodations, dining facilities, a heated outdoor pool, spa, sauna, tennis courts, and hiking trails. The Granlibakken professional staff is experienced in hosting many educational, scientific, and business meetings.

Facilities and Lodging

Executive Lodge Bedroom Granlibakken has several large meeting halls, which can be shared by a number of groups. We have reserved the meeting rooms of the prestigious Executive Lodge, a separate complex which will give us our own meeting area, while the main hall is used by other groups. The Executive Lodge, the newest addition to Granlibakken, includes the most modern and spacious bedrooms, conveniently located a few steps away from where the class meets. Most rooms can accommodate one or two people. The rooms can be grouped into suites and two-floor units, so that friends can request adjoining rooms to create a community atmosphere.

Other rooms are available in other sections of the conference center. Please contact Granlibakken for full details. In the past most participants have preferred staying at the Executive Lodge, in close proximity to our classroom and to other FES participants.

All rooms have private bathrooms, telephones, and television.

Please note: Granlibakken will have other groups using its extensive facilities, so you are urged to register early in order to secure your preference in room assignments.

Travel to Granlibakken

Map to Granlibakken Granlibakken is in Tahoe City in Northern California, on the west shore of Lake Tahoe. The closest airport is in Reno, Nevada. Transportation from Reno airport to Granlibakken takes about one hour each way, and can be arranged through Granlibakken. If you are traveling from the San Francisco airport, you may wish to rent a car to get to Granlibakken. The drive by car is approximately four hours. You can also take a shuttle flight from San Francisco to Reno.

Before and After the Class

If you are traveling from overseas, or if your airline connections do not allow you to arrive in time for the Thursday evening program, we recommend that you book a hotel in San Francisco, Reno, or Lake Tahoe for Wednesday night, July 6 (or earlier) so you will be rested for the class, or arrange for an earlier arrival at Granlibakken.

After the class, you are welcome to stay at Granlibakken on a "bed-and-breakfast" plan. Costs are figured per room, not per person, and include only breakfast. Other meals can be purchased individually at Granlibakken, or you may choose one of the many local restaurants. Please contact Granlibakken for details.
