Client Background — “I Want to Accept Being a Woman and Mother”

Hanako sought flower essence therapy because she realized she was very unhappy in her identity as a woman. Hanako looked much younger than her biological age of 27, with her slender, delicate and child-like features. Although a graduate of a Japanese university and employed by a legal firm, Hanako was unhappy in her work. She believed that many women in her country were treated with “social unfairness.” She was born with a twin brother and felt the difference in their social status, despite being his equal. Hanako was estranged from her mother, who neglected her as a child in favor of her twin brother. She grew up feeling that she did not want to be like her mother.

Hanako was happily married and wanted to have a child but attempts to do so had not been successful. She suffered from endometriosis, with menstrual pain so debilitating she had to miss work each month. She hoped that the flower essences could resolve her medical condition, help her conceive a child, and achieve a more positive understanding of her identity as a woman. She wrote on her client intake form, “I want to accept being a woman and a mother.”

A Diagnosis of Endometriosis and Fibroid Tumors

The first strategy focused on whether the flower essences could help reverse Hanako’s physical condition of severe endometriosis while acknowledging that her condition was already very extreme. One-and-a-half months after beginning flower essence therapy, Hanako’s doctor diagnosed her medical condition as advanced endometriosis. A later examination revealed fibroid tumors. The doctor recommended immediate surgery.

The therapeutic strategy was then changed to help Hanako accept the operation and to examine the deeper karma that had led to her condition. Without a healing from within her feminine soul, her body might be changed on the outside, but the patterns that had created dysfunction would continue to work in other ways in her life destiny.

During this time, Hanako began to identify many toxic emotions and experiences that contributed to her current identity. She saw how dramatically the feelings of her soul were affecting her body. For example, when she spoke with her mother on the telephone, her pain became much worse. She had not seen this impact as clearly before she began flower essence therapy.

Dealing with Depression: “Leave Me Alone”

Prior to her surgery, Hanako experienced a period of intensified feelings. This interval was very important from an alchemical point of view, helping her to consciously face the darkness and despair she felt. Hanako feared the operation and wondered whether she would lose her reproductive capacity entirely. It appeared that her condition was getting worse, yet this was actually a beneficial time for her. It helped her through powerful feelings of depression, bringing her to another level of consciousness. As her drawings show, she felt as if she were plunging into a place of darkness (drawing #1), a wall of isolation was building around her, and she was losing hope in the future (drawing #2). These feelings had long been festering in her soul and now they were brought from the hidden depths and made more visible to her. The Loves-Lies-Bleeding, Gentian and Black-Eyed Susan flower essences were especially important at this time.
